Milestones

There is no doubt our little girl is growing up. Watching her every day amazes me, and makes me sad at the same time, to know how fast time flashes by. It seems like only yesterday I was feeling her move around in my tummy, just yesterday that she was born, that she started walking. And now she is developing into this little girl with her very own personality (which she makes abundantly clear to us every day ;), her own thoughts and her own ideas. Just this Summer, she has passed so many milestones, it only reminds me of how fast they all come and go. Believe it or not, up until June 2, my baby was still sleeping with her binky (nap and bedtime only). But we were actually able to break that habit fairly easily.....a chunk of it was coming loose, and one night before bed I told her that it was broken and that she couldn't use it anymore. She looked at me, like she wanted to cry, but was being brave and said, "Okay." She asked for it a few times, and we just kept reminding her that it was broken, and literally, that was it! We were very lucky for it to have been that easy on her, and us. She is such a big girl! Of course, emotional me was sad because I'd never again see that sweet picture of my baby with a binky in her mouth.

Our next milestone? Ella's first major injury :( Long story short, she fell and hit her face on the coffee table and broke her nose! It actually sounds a lot worse than it was...it was bruised up and rough looking for a few days, but she never got a black eye, and it didn't look as terrible as I thought it would. Luckily, I work for an (AWESOME!) ENT, so she met us at the office that evening to take a look at Ella and give us her opinion. She said it looked like there was probably a small fracture on the upper outer (where it is really bony...kind of where your sunglasses would sit) right side. She also said that there was no use in getting an x-ray because 1. it was too swollen, the fracture wouldn't show, and 2. she was so small, they wouldn't do anything for it anyway. She said she may or may not have a little bone callus on that side, which if it bothers her, she can always have fixed later. My poor baby! Needless to say, the coffee table is out of here as soon as I can find a nice leather storage ottoman...something softer! Here is a picture of the injury... it really doesn't do it justice...she looked so pitiful!

Kind of blurry, but you can see how swollen she is on her right side, just under her eye. She looks real upset, huh? ;) She also had a huge bruise right in the middle of her forehead.

Next, we have a much less painful milestone....Ella's big girl room! We worked for several weeks painting, adding chair rails, etc to her room to transition Ella from her "crib" room, to her "big girl" room. Again, more tears from Mommy :) Check it out!

Thanks to my fellow blogging friend, Liz, she gave me the great idea of letting Ella do some of her own artwork for the walls in her new room. Three stretched canvases and some acrylic paint was all it took....and Ella LOVED it! So fun to see them hanging in her room, and she is SUPER proud of them :)

The finished product.

First night in her big girl bed....how cute is that??

Another view of her room, showing the purple wall with the chair rail. It turned out so great!

View of her bed with her (proud) paintings hanging above :)

I feel like there is so much more I have failed to blog on this summer, so maybe before fall hits I'll have a summer in Review of sorts, so I have a chance to at least post some of the great pictures from the summertime! On the baby front, I will be 17 weeks on Friday. Still feeling a bit icky and using the Zofran to keep things down. Some days I can get by with only using it once, but I am really hoping it all subsides soon. Even though they assure me it is safe, I hate taking any medicine at all for fear that it will have any ill effects on the baby. I would greatly appreciate any prayers that this icky part of the pregnancy will subside soon! On a much more exciting note, we find out the gender 3 weeks from Friday!!! We can't wait, and we'll let you know as SOON as we find out! Please pray for a healthy ultrasound report, whether it be boy or girl!! Thanks everyone!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the big girl room! And the paintings look so great! They look surprisingly a lot like Charlotte's...go figure :) Are you getting another crib for the new baby or will you switch Ella to another bed? Can't wait to hear about baby Veo 2. We have GOT to ditch the passie soon. I hate that darn thing! Why am I trying so hard to get Riley to take one again? Oh yeah, so she isn't attached to my boob all day!

April, it looks like you and I are flip-flopping - I'm putting up more pictures and less words, and you've done the opposite!

Hope Ella's nose is doing okay. The room looks great! I'm inspired to do something better with Annalise's room! And I think Arlis is going to like the idea of Annalise painting up some canvases!

(Too many exclamation points? I guess I'm excited!)
